DAT Project and Beaker

Seeing URL’s that look like dat://445b0dbc94c371e6f3a2e80da8b1107cc8f6ba13e65318c43018a8d94ef8254a/?

What is this, and why won’t it open up anything useful in browsers like Chrome or Firefox?

The answer is that URL’s that start with dat: indicate a new distributed network protocol. See the Dat Project for more info. At the moment, these links can only be opened with the Beaker browser.

Code for the browser is available on github.
